Messanism
Template:Messanic Faith The Messanic Faith is an Azrean, monotheistic, religion based on the teachings of Noel of Aldbeth, as written in the Saga of Math. It is the largest religion in the world, with over n adherents, known as Messanites. Messanites consider Noel the son of Rune and both divine and human, simultaneously. However, they also see him as the terrestrial embodiment of Rune. In either case, he's accepted as the savior of humanity, consequently referring to him as Messan.
The foundation of Messanic theology are expressed in ecumenical creeds. The Good Creed—the first creed widely considered fundamental to the Faith—states that Noel suffered, died, was buried, and lives on as Salma. It also states that he will one day take physical form once more, to bring salvation to humanity—though how differs between later Creeds and, consequently, between denominations. His life is considered a model virtuous life that any good Messanite strives to achieve. It is told in the Three Sagas—the Sagas of Math, Fray, Emma—which are included in most Messanic Bivas.
The Faith is an Azrean religion that begun under a Makhal Azrea. After Noel's death at the hands of the Makhal state, its followers dispersed to surrounding states, some of which were more receptive—or at least tolerant. It grew in size and influence, becoming the official state religion of the Lanlania by the 3rd century BCE. During the Turbulent Age, the majority of the remainder of Brigidna was converted, and the Faith began to spread abroad. By the end of the Colonial Age it was carried globally by Brigidnan colonial powers.
The three largest global denominations of the Messanic Faith are: the Sentric Church, the Ostrid Church, and the various denominations of Avalsyanism. The Sentric and Ostra Churches split from one another in the schism of the 3rd century, while Avalsyanism split from the Sentric Church during the Revolution of the 10th century.
